Missing Your Pet?

We understand the heartbreak of an animal missing. We are here to help.

Always remember to contact us if your animal has gone missing in the Jackson County area. You can call us directly at 304.372.6064 and can send us a message on our Facebook page.

Make sure you send us a photo of the animal along with their name, where they are missing from, a contact person and phone number and any other description items you can include. We will make a flyer for you to share on social media and we will share it on our page and in our Missing Pets photo album.

Remember - Put out food and water for your pet if it's missing and any item that might smell like them. Sometimes this can help them find a scent to return home.

Please share other animals featured on our site so we can help them return home safely!

The Jackson County Animal Shelter Wishing Tree

Here is your chance to make a difference for homeless animals in your area this holiday season.

The Jackson County Animal Shelter is hosting a “Wishing Tree” event to raise awareness for items needed at the shelter.

Each animal at the Jackson County Animal Shelter has a small Christmas Wish List that will be hung on the “Wishing Tree” and posted on the Jackson County Animal Shelter Facebook Page throughout the month of December.

Items include anything from food for the animals, treats, toys, cleaning supplies, beds, activity sets, spays, neuters and more.

The shelter hopes this assists in the needs for the homeless animals, but also hopes it helps to raise awareness for the animals currently housed in the shelter. There are many animals who would love to find a forever home this holiday season. Please join us, share our event and help us help the animals in our area!

To donate or for more information, please contact the Jackson County Animal Shelter today!

Thanksgiving Wishes

The Jackson County Animal Shelter would like to send a sincere thank you to all of our staff, volunteers, donors, adoption families and rescues. We would also like to send a special thank you to ARF (Animal Right Furever) for your assistance and all that you do.

We focus on the importance of finding homes for animals, but also raising awareness on spaying and neutering your pets, donating items to help and sharing information to reach the largest audience possible. Without your help, we would not be as successful and we truly appreciate your support.

Remember to give thanks for those little paws that run across your floor. We look forward to having as many animals as possible adopted this holiday season!

The Numbers Hold The Truth - Join Us.

It's November 20th. We currently house 19 kittens and 9 adult cats at the Jackson County Animal Shelter and we need your help.

Cats and kittens ranging from a few weeks old all the way to 11 years old need a place to call home and families to love them.

Please join us in adopting, sponsoring or simply helping us spread the word that we have animals in Jackson County who need loving homes. You can visit us in Cottageville, WV on the Jackson County Fair Grounds and you can find us on Facebook and Petfinder.

Sharing our photos, spreading the word and talking to others about the shelter is a great way to help raise awareness and to help get our animals adopted.

We hope to see you soon...Our furbabies do, too!

Thank You, Jackson County! Barktoberfest Success!

We would like to thank everyone involved with Barktoberfest 2013 this year for a successful event!

On October 26th, we had friends, family and pets join us on the Jackson County Courthouse Lawn for vendors, kettle corn popcorn, a dog costume show contest and fall photos. The event was a great success! We raised money to help support vet bills for animals who come to our shelter and had 5 animals adopted!

Thank you to the Jackson County Commission for approving our idea and for everyone who helped volunteer, get the word out and especially those who attended! A special thank you to our Humane Officers, Sheila & Rachel - they are doing such an incredible job at the shelter. We are lucky to have them in our county making a difference! We look forward to Barktoberfest 2014...Bigger and Better!

Happy November! Fun Fall Activities For You and Your Pup!

November has brought us some windy weather this year, but it's still pretty warm and the sun is shining! Use this gorgeous time of year to get out and about and enjoy nature...and don't forget to take along your furry friend, too!

Here are a few fun things to do with your animals while enjoying the outdoors:

  1. Take a Hike! Animals enjoy getting out and exercising. Explore your area and take in the beautiful scenery this season has to offer. Make sure you keep your animal on a leash if you are headed into territory they aren't used to.
  2. Rake The Leaves. This task isn't usually very animal-friendly, but encourage your pet to come out and join you as you finish up those last-minute yard work tasks before winter hits. They will enjoy the time with you and the activity while they are outside.
  3. Take Some Pictures! Autumn is one of the most beautiful time of year. Take your pet out for a photo shoot that includes trees, leaves and the sunny weather.
  4. Make some Homemade Dog Biscuits - Here is a link to some great homemade dog biscuits that your friend is sure to love. It's healthier and safer and they will be glad you're thinking of them!
Happy Autumn!
